Lekha Dodi

Lekha Dodi
(Heb. "Come, my friend")
   Famous Jewish hymn text adapted from the Song of Songs 7:12 and composed by Kabbalist Rabbi Solomon Alkabetz (1505–1584), who signed the text with an acrostic formed from the beginning of each stanza. Sung at the climactic moment of the kabbalat shabbat ("welcoming the Sabbath") service established by 16th-century kabbalists, it was widely adopted by many different kinds of Jewish congregations, sung by hazanim (cantors), and set to music by synagogue composers.
